Saint Olaf Catholic School

Wednesday News Letter

December 13, 2017

Dear Families,

In the Northern Hemisphere, Advent comes at the darkest time of the year.  Our days continue to grow darker as we get nearer to December 21st, the shortest day of light.  It is during these long days, children excitedly prepare for Christmas.  Christmas songs, visits to Santa, Christmas decorations, buying gifts are all important parts of Advent.  It is this sense of waiting and anticipating with hope that makes the arrival of Christmas Day so special.  It is also a time to remember that we celebrate the birth of Jesus, remembering that God's Son was born to show us how to live in peace and love.

*The next Home and School Meeting will be held on January 10, 2018 in the EDP room at 7pm.

*We hope you have big plans on Friday night and bring your kids to MOVIE NIGHT. This is for Saint Olaf students PreK – 8th grade. The cost is $5/per child for 2 hours of kid friendly fun! Please see attached flyer.

*Important- The health and safety of our students is our #1 concern, that is why we follow the Utah Department of Health guidelines when determining if outdoor recess is acceptable during our inversion season. On green and yellow air days, all kids will be outdoors for recess. On orange days, sensitive children will be indoors as well as children who have been recently ill. Red days require all students to stay indoors for recess. Please see the attached guidelines provided by the State of Utah regarding this matter. Also, know we check the air quality prior to going outside at http://air.utah.gov/currentconditions.php?id=bv.

*EDP payment is due in the office by Friday, December 15. Thank you!

*Sarah Romney is preparing for the Christmas Eve, 5:30 p.m. Children’s Christmas Mass.  The Live Nativity is a great way to celebrate the birth of Jesus. If your child/children (3rd – 8th graders) are interested in being a part of this program, please email her at sromney@stolafs.org.  Also, please let her know if you can help her in preparing for the live nativity.   For planning purposes, the Christmas Concert will begin around 1:30pm with dismissal following. There is NO after school EDP that day.
