Today, January 10th, marks the 6 year anniversary of Bishop Solis being appointed to the Diocese of Salt Lake. It also marks 6 years of inspirational leadership, love and guidance. Today, we pray for Bishop Solis and his continued guidance of our diocese. We are blessed to have him.

Wednesday, January 11th, is our 5th 𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗨𝗔𝗟 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗔 𝗖𝗔𝗨𝗦𝗘. This Casual for a Cause funds a Scholarship for a current 8th grade Saint Olaf student that will attend a Utah Catholic High School next year. This scholarship has made continuing in Catholic Education feasible for the last two recipients and has meant the world to their families!

For $3, students may wear non-uniform clothes. You may donate via cash or Paypal at the “Giving” tab on our website. Please keep in mind that Paypal charges a fee so if you'd like your full donation to go to our Cause, you may want to add some to cover the fee.

May our Causes never become routine and may we never forget the individuals behind them. Every Cause in our year matters! We love to hear back from the various groups and people-from Sister Germaine with the Daughters of Charity (September), to the Garrick Family with the Ronald McDonald Room (October), to the Fisher House (November), we hear again and again what a difference your generosity makes! Keep up the good work and thank you.

Thanks to our recent engagement with KSL when they featured our School and the work done by RETEGO Labs, KSL reached out to us with a service opportunity near and dear to their staff. From the KSL site, "Every winter, hundreds of Utah children struggle to find shoes, socks or clothing to keep warm, but this year the demand is even higher due to the COVID pandemic and families out of work. KSL will distribute 100% of your donation to make sure Utah kids are warm and comfortable during the cold months."

With such need, we share this with our community. Families may send quarters, or any change, or donation to the main office until Thursday, December 15, when we will present the donations to the program.

Our Casual for a Cause in December supports Saint Olaf Catholic Parish Council of Women. Students and families may contribute items to the Annual Stocking Stuffer project (click heading for list of needed items), as well as support the cause on Wednesday, December 14.
The third way to help is to join and participate in the event, Friday evening, December 2 @ 6 PM. Click heading for more details.

Our 7th & 8th Grade Students have completed tours of all 3 Catholic Schools. We are the only grade school to have had the opportunity to see all three campuses, something we feel grateful for. Mr. McFall and myself strongly encourage students and their families to carefully and prayerfully consider this next step. With three very different experiences, students can now begin to discern where might be their best fit. Despite the uniqueness of each campus, mission, and philosophy, our Catholic High Schools are united in offering a high quality education with small class sizes, committed staff, and opportunities for service, character, and faith development. All three schools boast an average student ACT score of 26 (public schools are at or around an average score of 20). All three boast impressive lists of attended colleges nationwide with successful adult alum making a difference all over the world. Please, talk with your students and don't hesitate to visit the campuses for yourselves. You've come this far, help your student find their best path forward. Here we are again. I feel like a broken record, or rather a trinket spinning on a broken record, dazed, dizzy, and most definitely confused. Have you seen the latest educational headlines in the NY Times? With a headline of Math Scores Fell in Nearly Every State, and Reading Dipped on National Exam, the news just keeps getting better. A title like that should have the attention and deep concern of every parent in the nation. Reading on only confirms that parents should be paying attention, “The results, from what is known as the nation’s report card, offer the most definitive picture yet of the pandemic’s devastating impact on students.” What are we, as a nation, doing with our students’ education?
