Saint Olaf Students LOVE to read! With 21 Author visits in 3 years, and with hundreds of books given away to students, including signed and illustrated copies by several of our guest authors, Saint Olaf is proud of our legacy of reading. Ask any Saint Olaf Student about our Read Across America Week and you'll hear tales of drawing Marty Pants blindfolded with Author/illustrator Mark Parisi or helping Alum Author/illustrator Pete Oswald perfect his Sour Grape drawing. The valiant Vikings set sail in the annual Hibernian Society of Utah, Saint Patrick's Day Parade in downtown Salt Lake on Saturday, March 12. Our thanks to the many families and our HSA for helping host this event, including decorating our mighty ship, walking or riding in the parade, and representing a viking and St. Patrick who joined us on board. It was a beautiful day as the sun shone down and we celebrated our community and school! Many compliments were paid to our float and crew. Sail on Vikings with the luck of the Irish!

This month our Cause is in support of an event started by one of our own school families who were inspired by their son Zeke. Taken from their event site...

“amaZing Z” was inspired by our lil’ Zeke who has been making our lives so much more amazing since the day he was born. You might say, he put the “Z” in our amazing!

Our goal is to help add some “Z” (zeal, zest, zing, etc) in the form of financial contributions to amazing individuals, families and organizations that have been blessed by Down syndrome as well as raise awareness about Down syndrome.

We do this mainly by hosting a 3.21K run/walk every year on or around World Down Syndrome Day. We are able to make an enormous impact for many because of the generous and caring people in our lives. Register and find out more here: https://amazingz.org/amazing-3-21k/

Calling all Viking and Leprechauns 🍀 JOIN US 🍀 and walk with the float! If you would like to walk, please plan to arrive no later than 10:30 a.m. If you would like to assist with decorating and prepping the float, arrive around 9:30 a.m. Parade starts at 11:00 a.m. We are Float #18. Our meeting location and staging spot is at the corner of 200 South and 600 West, Salt Lake City.

Monday, February 27 begins Read Across America Week, ending on Friday, March 3. Students will be Zooming with authors and illustrators throughout the week, including our very own Saint Olaf Alumnus author and illustrator, Pete Oswald. We are excited for these presentations and the many other planned activities and events that encourage reading! Be sure to ask students about our contests for books from our guests: bookmarks, Bingo, and book beginning sentences, oh my! Let's get ready to celebrate reading.

Announcing that Saint Olaf Catholic School has been recognized as a 2023 Best Elementary School AGAIN by Niche! We ranked in the top 10 nationwide for Catholic Private schools K-8th. We’ve earned this ranking by scoring highly in many different factors that aim to capture what it’s really like to attend Saint Olaf. While we’ve always known that Saint Olaf is a wonderful place to learn and grow, we’re so proud of our students and staff for earning this national distinction.

Our thanks to Mr. Stokes, the K of C, and the additional parish members who volunteered to judge the 2023 Saint Olaf Science Fair. Science Fair preparation begins in late September with students researching a topic of interest and writing a paper in order to develop a testable hypothesis. Experiments can run for many weeks, with final preparation, conclusions, and board presentations in January. These projects are 5-6 months in the making and we are so proud of the hard work and effort put into them. Our thanks to our very supportive parents. The Science Fair is the culmination and coming together of projects, learning, and our community. Good luck to students progressing on!

February's cause is for 𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗖 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗦.
